I know I promised to stick to a regular updating schedule and I know I failed horribly over the past week. But, things have been crazy. So, let us play some catch up.
First off, I didn't do much of anything for the 4th. I heard fireworks outside, so that was fun. But mostly I spent the weekend catching up on a great big giant list of things I haven't done but needed to. I made it about 3/4 of the way through. My apartment is clean, which is good. I caught up on sweeping and dish washing and some TV watching. I also replaced all the extremely hard to reach light bulbs (the ones 12' up) with CFLs so, god willing, I will never have to replace those damned bulbs again for as long as I'm in this apartment.
I caught up on some work, but nowhere near as much as I was hoping for. Alas, this always seems to be the case.
Oh, and the beer fairy left me a present of 3 Pabst Blue Ribbons outside my door.
Seriously..
I walk outside this morning and there's a 6 pack of Pabst sitting outside my door. Granted, 1 was empty, 1 was a water bottle, 1 was full of bottle caps and spare change, but there were, in fact, 3 full unopened bottles of Pabst. So, the question is, do accept strange gift beer? I don't know. Also, I don't really much care for Pabst.
Vodka. Yes. So, it was delayed, but last Wednesday we officially held a Vodka Taste Test Challenge for Science at work. I'm still in the middle of finishing the write up (which will be posted here as soon as I'm done) but the event itself went off quite smashingly.. There were some surprises, but you will have to wait for the official write up to find out the juicy details.
I will say, however, that we went all out for this one. I ordered a bunch of test tubes, test tube racks, and beakers from a lab supply company to provide all the trappings of science for our Taste Test Challenge for Science. After explaining the rules and methodology we did a toast "TO SCIENCE!" and had at it. Fun was had by all, cleanup was relatively painless, and no one got too hammered. That said, 11 vodkas is a lot to test in one sitting. We did the math and it came out to between 3 and 5 shots of vodka, per person, depending on how full the test tube was and how much they drank. By my calculations, if the vodka was distributed equally and you finished off everything in each test tube, then you would have drank about 3-ish shots.
And finally how about those happy fun airport times? A couple of stories. First off, due to a rushed arrival at the airport, and due to some bad decisions and some byzantine bureaucracies and a number of not especially helpful airport personnel, Leyla arrived in San Francisco this evening without her checked bag. But, hey, we got to spend 2 hours at SFO wandering from terminal to terminal and talking to various airline representatives. We also discovered a really scary empty hallway at SFO. It was advertised as "Baggage Services" but, in reality, I think it is where people get murdered. I was tempted to buy a box of jelly beans and leave a little trail.
Ooh, candy.
Ooh, candy.
In other airport news, I made my airline and hotel reservations for Hawaii for Vach's wedding. I got a pretty good deal. I'm staying at a fancy hotel. Yeah. The Ritz Carlton.
Yeah. That's how I roll.
Seriously, though, I actually got a pretty good deal, all things considered. Unfortunately, most of my savings seem to come from my return flight from Hawaii. I end up in Portland and have to stay there for 7 hours. Which really sucks, but, more than that, I spend 7 hours in Portland from 11 PM until 6 AM. So, yes, I get to spend 7 hours in an airport during the middle of the night when there is nothing for me to do. And airports never have seats that let you lay down.
*sigh*
