The Big Shuffle of 2010

The dust is starting to settle from the events of last week. I don't feel compelled to to go too deep into the details, but long story short, there were some rather large layoffs at work. I was not caught by them, but a number of my friends were not so fortunate. So, if you happen to work at an actively hiring company and are in need of some good developers shoot me an email. As for me, I am cautiously optimistic that while these changes are tough and sudden that they will, ultimately, prove to be good for the company.

In evolutionary terms: this was not an extinction level event but it was definitely a systemic shock to business as usual. It is now up to us to adapt to the new circumstances. Fortunately, I think this is exactly what my coworkers are good at. I am also hoping that it doesn't prove too difficult for my coworkers to find new jobs. The economy is pretty terrible right now, but I've been asking around and it appears that there's still a relatively strong demand for intelligent programmers who know what they're doing.

And, finally, the weather in San Francisco has been absolutely amazing for the past 3 days. It's supposed to cool off over the next couple of days but will still be sunny and clear. Hooray!
