In Transit

Oi.

So, due to bad planning and my need to get savings on my airfare I am currently stuck in PDX until 6 AM. It seriously blows. I'm pretty much going to sleep for the 90 minutes it takes to get from Portland to San Francisco. Only 3.5 hours to go.

Anyway, due to the late hour and my fatigue, I don't want to go into a full write up of the wedding right now. I have put my photos up on flickr and you can see them in the Hawaii and Vach's Wedding set.

Jason & Kendra's WeddingThe wedding was actually very nice. I have to admit, I wasn't sure what to expect, but ultimately I reckon all you need for a good wedding is family and close friends. The details kind of work themselves out. Dinner, afterwards, was super marvelous and while I normally wouldn't I decided the occasion was special enough to warrant indulging in some sweets; namely the wedding cake, which was super delicious by the way. I did, in fact, give a toast. I'll try and chronicle that in a later post, but it (mostly) went off without a hitch. I had been trying to practice what I was going to say for the toast all that afternoon, but I seriously kept getting interrupted by phone calls and text messages and people needing to coordinate with this, that and the other. And then it turns out I needed to buy a shirt because, like, Jason and Kendra were all "it's casual" but it turns out it was like hawaiian formal, which means I needed a shirt. Anyway, so we're seated for dinner and Kendra's good friend, Jason (not the one she married, who is my good friend) stood up to say some words. And then it was my turn, and I apologized, warning them all that I had tried to practice but kept getting interrupted and so the first 1/3 was quite well polished but the remainder would largely be made up on the spot.

So I give my toast.

About a third of the way through the first course arrives.

It was funny to pretty much everyone.

Anyway, it did provide me some time to make up something really quick to finish it all off and, after the food was on the table, I finished my toast, and it all seemed to go relatively smoothly.

I don't know why everyone was so worried.

Anyway, yesterday was my last full day in Hawaii and the weather was perfect. I was able to get one more go in the ocean before leaving and that was fun. I definitely need to go back and do some snorkeling and some other Hawaiian specific activities. Regardless, it was still nice to have a week off to not have to think too hard about anything in particular. Today I headed home. The flight from Kahului to Portland was not only uneventful but also not full. I actually had the entire row to myself for the first 20 minutes before this girl decided she didn't want to sit in the middle in her row. Still, it made a 6 hour plane trip a bit more bearable not having to be elbow to elbow with someone. I'm hoping the 6 AM flight from Portland to San Francisco will be equally easy.

Hrm. It turns out I rattled on a bit more than I intended. Tomorrow, as soon as I get home, I will probably take a nap, then unpack, and then figure out what all is going on with my life since I've been gone for a week. I think that will largely mean going grocery shopping and going through my mail. Time permitting I may wax poetic about Hawaii some more, but in all likelihood that will have to wait until Tuesday.
